I teach at an urban Title I school. 75% of our students qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch. Our school has a diverse population, which includes a large number of students who are new to our country. There are 20 different native languages spoken in our building.
Band class is one of the favorites subjects for students in our school.
It is a place where all students have the opportunity to be successful, and are made to feel part of the family.
They are able to express themselves through the universal language of music. Music connects them.
My Project
99% of our students play on instruments provided by the school district. The instruments include a factory-issued mouthpiece, which are adequate for beginners. Many of the instruments have been in the inventory for several years, and the mouthpieces are scratched and chipped from use by numerous students.
The musical equipment requested will be used to help students to continue to grow musically.
Beautiful tone is a prized possession of all musicians. The tone of the ensemble will blend more easily when all students in each section are using matched mouthpieces.
