Keep Learning Flexible for Little Learners

Help me give my students flexible seating options and new headphones for optimal learning!

My Students

I teach 22 darling 1st graders. My students are all learning to read, learning their basic math facts, and learning to love school. My group of students this year is very diverse, and they have varying needs. There are students in our class on all levels academically. We have students that have special needs and accommodations.

For some of my students, this school year is their first time learning in person in a classroom.

Covid has impacted their preschool and kindergarten years. They have not known a normal school year. Because of this many of my students are starting the year below level academically. Despite all of that my students work hard every day and want to do their best. They are happy and believe in the magic of school and learning. My students come from many different backgrounds and with different learning needs and despite all of that we are creating a thriving community in our classroom.

My Project

My students love to learn! They also like to move. Many of my students have 504 plans that require them to sit close to the whiteboard and limit their distractions.

I am excited about these new flexible seating seats because it will allow my students to sit close to the board but still have a desk accessible.

They love choosing their own seating, and are learning to be responsible by choose what type of seat works best for them to help them learn. I have loved letting my 1st graders have a sense of ownership when choosing where and how they would like to sit as they learn. Having flexible seating is huge for my students. It helps them to focus by letting them move while they are learning. They look forward to choosing their seating each day and they are mindful of choosing a smart seat that will help them focus. The traditional desk and chair doesn't work for all of my students. They often choose a seat that allows them to move and find a quiet spot to focus.

Having their own set of headphones will help them to learn and listen to our online programs without distractions from other students. It will make our small group learning time more efficient.

We love to learn together at the rug and having access to these paddleboard whiteboards will make it easier for my students to share what they are thinking with me and their classmates. I look forward to using these paddleboard whiteboards in small group and whole-group settings. We will be able to use these whiteboards in math, language arts, and even in our morning meetings. These whiteboards are extra special because I will be able to put a lesson-specific page inside of each board!
