Keep Kids Active

Help me give my students sports equipment like soccer balls, volleyballs, footballs, basketballs, and frisbees, that will allow and encourage them to stay active during this time of sheltering in place.

My Students

Life has changed for everyone. Students are especially feeling the ill effects of this Coronavirus. My 7th graders are stuck in their homes or apartments and have expressed feeling very downtrodden. They are bored, they are lonely, they are on their school devices non-stop to complete their classwork. My students need a break from screen time.

Being from a Title One school, the majority of students have very little access to many of the things we take for granted.

Most don't have access to books, colored pencils, printers, sporting equipment, sidewalk chalk, and other items that have been keeping middle class families busy during this time. Instead, they are trying to get their work done while babysitting, helping siblings with homework, and trying to teach themselves concepts that they have not yet been taught. We can make life a little better for these kids during this pandemic!

My Project

Staying active not only helps students to stay physically fit, but it also can help their mental state during this pandemic. As a class, we Zoom weekly to check in and talk about how they are feeling and the activities they have been doing. Students have expressed feelings of loneliness and discouragement, and I've found that much of what they do is on the school-issued Chromebooks. When asked, many of them do not own their own basketball or soccer ball to get outside and dribble. My goal is to help my students take a break from their screens and get outside to play. They need a little fun brought back into their lives!

Getting up and getting active could help turn their frowns upside down.

They would be so excited to receive their own ball to pick out and take home. Receiving their own ball would motivate them to get outside and stay active. Help me bring a smile to their faces during this tough time!
