When students come into the gym for PE, each one of them is on a different skill and excitement level. My goal for each class is for all students to feel successful, regardless of what level they are on. A variety of learning options, aside from the usual sports is key to diverse learning. My students come from low-income backgrounds, receive free and reduced lunch, and our school is a title-1 school.
While many of the students at our school put up a tough exterior, they are a prime example of "Don't judge a book by its cover." They have warm hearts, and we try to give them the love they deserve, which they often don't get at home.
Dodgeball is a fun, engaging and interactive way for all students to be able to participate (especially helpful when class sizes consist of 45 students) in PE. Students learn about teamwork, their reflexs, quick decision making and are able to get their energy out all while participating in dodgeball.
In addition to my PE classes, the dodgeballs will be used by all of the other PE classes at OGMS.
Dodgeball not only is a favorite team game/sport among the majority of OGMS, it is also a go-to indoor gym game/sport on rainy days.
Hearing laughter and seeing all of the smiles on my students while they are playing dodgeball in our gym is priceless!
