Kangaroo Band Needs Supplies
My students need clarinet and saxophone reeds.
Imagine wanting to learn an instrument, but not having the money for even basic supplies. This is the reality for most of my students.
My students attend an inner city public school, in an economically depressed area.
My students worry about what they are going to eat next, and where are they going to live when their family gets evicted, again. For most students, school is the most secure aspect in their lives.
My students have the opportunity to participate in my band program. It is always a challenge to provide them with a good quality instrument, and all the supplies needed to be successful. I do not get a lot of financial support from my school district, so I rely on donations, grants, and my own pocket to get everything we need. I am asking for reeds. These are essential items which I have to constantly replace.
If my students are going to make it through college, they are going to have to rely on grants, loans, and scholarships.
Playing an instrument gives them one more tool in their "bag" to help make this dream a reality.
