This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My autistic students need a Calm Corner—a quiet, cozy space in our classroom where they can go to manage big emotions and refocus. This area will include calming tools like a sound machine, a teepee, soft seating, and mindfulness materials, a mirror so they can recognize their emotions. It will help students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn by teaching them how to self-regulate and take healthy emotional breaks.

A teepee provides a quiet, cozy space that helps students feel safe and secure when they’re overwhelmed.

Its enclosed design reduces sensory input and encourages calming, making it an ideal spot for emotional regulation and reflection.

A mirror is a great addition because by seeing their own facial expressions, children can better identify and understand their emotions—an important first step in learning how to manage them.
