This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you know how hard it is to rotate one iPad during center time? The iPad is one of the most popular gadgets in the world today. It is a new teaching tool that I use in my classroom. All students need to be technology literate regardless of their age.
I have 18 energetic five and six year old students in my class.
Our school serves students from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. Our school is located in the southeast corridor of East Atlanta. We are a Title 1 school. Many of the students receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
I have one iPad that I use in my classroom during small group instruction. Students have been wonderful in sharing the iPad. However, it can be difficult getting to everyone in the classroom. Having two more iPads to use during small group instruction will enable me to rotate the iPads more frequently. More students can be working on the iPads completely independently, at various levels, while I work with a small group.
The iPad is a powerful educational tool with hundreds of teaching applications.
It is simple to use and can bring learning to life with imagery and sounds. My students use the iPad to practice and reinforce skills that we've worked on in reading/language arts and mathematics. It is engaging and holds their attention in the learning process. The possibilities of incorporating iPads into centers are endless.
