I work in a low-income school district with a large number of our students on free and reduced lunch. We also have a large population of second language learners. A large portion of our population comes from a home where there is only one parent or they are being raised by a family member other than their mom or dad.
My students love to be engaged in their learning, and use the opportunity to discuss their own ideas about what they are learning.
My Project
I am requesting bouncy bands for desks and chairs, wiggle seats, exercise ball seats, and desk risers for my classroom because my students need flexible seating when it comes to learning. I have many students with ADHD, which in most cases that they have a hard time focusing and sitting still. I constantly have students who want to stand, move, or sit on the floor. I would love to accommodate them. Having bands allows them to bounce their feet with out shaking the whole table. Standing desks and table allow for those who love to stand and work. The wiggle stools allow those students who love to move their bodies while learning do so slightly so as not to disrupt the whole classroom. Having these tools will help provide/encourage our students to be independent and assist them in focusing on their classwork, rather than the constant need to move their bodies.
