My students love to do read alouds in the classroom and have discussions about the books. Using books that the students are interested in reading raises the level of engagement for each one. The book "Wonder" is so full of great ways to teach the standards while also learning about the importance of acceptance. This story is so rich in character development and plot structure, it really allows the students to dig deep into the story. In the midst of learning the standards, this story also teaches the importance of acceptance of all types of people. I will be using this book to teach the ELA standards for Common Core for sixth grade; reading, writing, language, and speaking. I have a curriculum put together to meet the needs of all my students, including my second language learner, my high need learners, and my high achieving students.
