This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a middle/high school in the urban area of West Baltimore. We focus on educating our students to become great leaders and citizens. Students are celebrated for exhibiting our school's core values: integrity, scholarship, citizenship, perseverance, and sustainability. My students learn best through real-world application, hands-on activities, and authentic experiences. I teach students with diverse abilities, interests, and backgrounds. My students are in various grade levels, but they all thrive when they get to "do" science!
For the 2019-2020 school year, I am teaching Forensic Science, Independent Study -- Science, and Introduction to Research Methods.
Forensic Science is a popular course with students. The Independent Study -- Science and Introduction to Research Methods courses are new for my school. STEM/STEAM hands-on activities, cross-curricular projects, and laboratory investigations help my students to learn and apply concepts.
Many of our students want to go into the medical field. Having experiences dealing with independent studies and research in high school will better prepare them for their future colleges and careers choices. I am so excited to be teaching these courses!
My Project
Our supply closet is running low on basic supplies for our classrooms. This project will help to restock supplies of EXPO markers, staples, index cards, and tape, as well as replacing worn out staplers and provide much needed tape dispensers.
Students benefit from these basic supplies.
This project includes items that every teacher needs so they can meet their students' needs. EXPO markers are used on our white boards by teachers for agendas, directions, and demonstrations, as well as by students during activities. Tape is used for a variety of things, from hanging student work to fingerprint analysis in Forensics. Tape dispensers allow for easy access and use. Staplers and staples will help to keep paperwork organized, so our students are organized. Index cards can be used in so many activities--stations, labs, and STEAM/STEM challenges.
