Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have an energetic, inquisitive, and enthusiastic group of 26 seven and eight year-olds in the inner city of Providence, Rhode Island. My second graders are always eager to come to school and love to read, write and problem solve in such thoughtful and creative ways! My students are so appreciative of each other and all that we do every day. They are culturally diverse and enjoy sharing their own unique experiences with the class.

Many of my students have special needs and also special talents so we learn so much from each other.

My school is working hard to build community among families and staff, and we have a safe, respectful environment.

My Project

At this time of the year we are running out of basic supplies such as chart paper and markers. We use these materials on a regular basis for author studies, concept webs, character analysis, number talks, mathematical thinking, writing workshop anchor charts, and so much more.

Many of the students in my class have special needs and talents and learn best by doing and collaborating.

They excel when they have the opportunity to work together to create representations and celebrations of their learning. We have a quote of the day every day to focus on, such as "It's Cool to be Kind," "How Wonderful it is that Nobody Need Wait a Single Moment Before Making the World a Better Place," and "The Bad News is Time Flies, The Good News is You're the Pilot," and once a week the children as a class create a representation on the quote that is most meaningful to them. It would be so wonderful to have the paper and markers requested to continue all this meaningful learning.
