Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a 98% poverty elementary school, my students have many challenges and obstacles to overcome each and every day. Our school is a neighborhood school, meaning all of the students live within walking distance of the school. My Fifth Grade class is made up of a group of 28 students, many of whom come from bilingual and/or single parent households. All students receive free breakfast and lunch from the school.
My students try their very best each and every day to do what they can to succeed, and it is my goal to provide these students with the resources that they need to do so.
Each of my students has various strengths and weaknesses and I want to be able to provide them with the tools to best fit their individual needs.
My Project
My fifth grade students are always eager to find a new, interesting book that they can read. These books will continue to enhance the love of reading that I strive to build within each of my students.
As their teacher, it is important to me that my students are able to build their identities as readers by exposing them to a wide variety of genres and reading levels that are just right for them!
Each of these books have been chosen with my students in mind, and most have been requested directly from them. Being able to choose books that interest them will ultimately allow them to grow as readers. My students have already shown a passion for reading, and these books will only allow that passion to grow!
