I have taught at this elementary school for fifteen years! This year is like no other year that I have ever taught! These children want to be at school! They missed school when they were forced to stay at home. The students that are at home miss school, and want to be doing everything we are doing at school.
This year half of my students chose to be remote learners.
I am teaching students in the classroom and at home. Many of my students can not afford to buy the tools they need at home to learn. I am really trying to meet all their needs by sending home the tools they need to learn. My students are very diverse, coming from Hispanic, Russian, Thai, and Haitian backgrounds.
My school is a Title I school but this school is astonishing. The students are loved and challenged. The teachers are motivated and want what is best for all their students.
Having a sufficient amount of just right books is always a challenge in my classroom. I am looking to have a guided reading library that each child will be able to choose a book based on their interest and reading level. Children learn best when they are in charge of their own learning. Letting the children choose what they want to read about will enhance their learning experience.
Having "just right books" allows the children to read books that they are interested in and are leveled for their learning.
This will also prepare the children to be able to find their own "just right book" in the media center. They will learn how to choose books that they will be able to read successfully.
