Help me give my students the class text of Just Mercy to help them learn about criminology and racial injustice and give them the optimism and strength to conquer the issues of their time.
My sophomore classes are always composed of students who are at the crucial stage in their high school career when they realize the gravity of their personal responsibility to their own education. No longer the youngest ones in the building and no longer adjusting to the nuances of high school, sophomore year is when students are ready to be serious about their education, which is why it is such an integral time for teachers to utilize their intrinsic desire to learn by presenting them with a relevant, engaging curriculum.
My Project
By sophomore year, students are thinking about life after high school, which makes them ready to learn, ready to work, and ready to be challenged--so long as the materials presented to them are relevant and engaging. The book, Just Mercy, is an ideal class text to take advantage of this significant, educational opportunity, since sophomores would be captivated by the theme of justice and the topic of criminology. Thus, with just the right book at just the right time, students could willingly and fully take on the personal responsibility of their education--and do so with ease.
