Help me give my students the ability to start the new school year with binders, pencils, pens, and pencil cases. I want each student on the roster to be able to have equitable access to materials for success.

My Project

I imagine the first day of the new school year—the door opens, and a student hesitates for just a moment before stepping into my classroom. Maybe they’re a little nervous, maybe a little curious. But right away, they see something waiting for them: a shiny new binder sitting neatly on their desk. They walk over, run their hand across the cover, and open it.

Inside the binder is crisp, college-ruled paper, ready for fresh ideas.

There are dividers already in place, giving their thoughts a home. Tucked inside is a pencil case with three sharpened pencils—simple tools, but powerful ones. In that moment, they’re ready.

As the days go on, that binder begins to fill. Notes from lessons, brainstorms, and rough drafts become evidence of growth. When they forget a pencil, they don’t have to worry. When they need to stay organized, everything is right there.

Around the room, shared supplies quietly support them. A student notices their Chromebook is about to die, but there’s a charger available—no lost learning time. Another reaches for tissues or paper towels, helping us keep a clean and comfortable space. During creative moments, markers become tools for expression and confidence.

These may seem like small things, but they shape the classroom experience. They remove barriers and allow students to focus on learning and growing.

As I prepare for the final quarter of my first year, I’m already thinking ahead. I want to spend my summer planning meaningful lessons, knowing my students will have what they need from day one.
