My Students
Our school is located in a large urban school district in a very low-income area. Uniquely our students don't act like they don't have everything that they need and show pride in everything they do. Our school community is so special because the staff and students try all they can to make our school a place where they can feel safe, grow and learn regardless of the struggles beyond our walls. My students are the best students in our city.
My Project
Our kindergarten students are sorely lacking in sports equipment for PE class. Some of them have classes twice a week, and are using old and broken hula hoops, and struggling to use adult-sized basketball hoops.
We know that our children learn best by being physically active.
Giving our youngest students hula hoops, an appropriately sized basketball station, and a parachute will both promote physical activity and allow them to learn about being active while having fun at the same time.
Many of our students face obesity and weight issues even at young ages, due to poor nutrition and limited choice of healthful food options. The more they have fun with the activities in PE class, the more they will want to move outside of PE, and outside of school.
