Every day I get an overwhelming amount of questions asked by my students on ways we can get organized programing such as basketball’s team at our school. The children have enjoyed my unique ways I have to incorporate my love of basketball in our daily physical education classes. Their ability and eagerness to learn and grow interest in the sport, has prompted me to organize my school’s first own middle school basketball team. Since the beginning of the brainstorming idea, until now I have spent countless hours on perfecting the children’s skills and purchasing supplies to help mature the skills in the forms of basketballs and uniforms. We are still in need of additional help. In order to have a significant school basketball league, we need to have a score board and clock to have home games. My school is located in a large urban district. All of my students receive Title I lunches and have very little when they come to us each day. I have had the unique privilege of teaching each and every student in our school so their wants and needs are very visible and apparent. Seeing consist smiles on their faces when entering my class, enjoying the course activities and excited for the additional after school programs is very rewarding. This program will not be used just as a way students can express their love and talent for basketball but, a mentorship and safe haven for at risk youth. It’s very evident that these children lack guidance, support and positive role modeling in their lives, therefore the program and relationship with my students are very important. This program is not the answering to solve anyone’s problems both in and out of school, but beacon of change in our youth’s future.
