My school is a creative arts magnet that has been around since 1996. Students are immersed in the arts from K through 5th grade both in the classroom and in special area classrooms. I have been the physical education teacher at the school since the beginning, and I have watched how our population's needs have changed over time.
Our kids are open to new activities and challenges, which meld perfectly with proven brain research that supports the importance of movement and cognitive abilities.
It has been proven that movement increases memory functions, the ability to retain information, and aids students to maintain focus in their academic classes.
My Project
My students are full remote learning at this time and many do not have basic equipment to be active at home. Having a jump rope at home will allow students more opportunities to be physically active and help them to reach their daily activity goal of 60 minutes as well as providing the motivation to be active because jumping rope is fun. It will also allow them access to the equipment needed in several PE class activities. It has been well documented that physical activity has many benefits for children. It not only reduces stress, but can help students to focus and retain information, therefore, helping with academic performance. Active children learn better.
