My students need recess materials, including jump ropes and balls, to compensate for the lack of playground equipment at our school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember how much fun you had running around on the playground at recess? It was where we made our best friends, played crazy games of kickball, and learned to play and interact with others. My scholars, unfortunately, do not have a playground to enjoy.
My scholars attend a charter school that focuses on preparing students for college through a rigorous, arts-infused curriculum.
They are extremely focused on reaching multiple goals in their academic careers, from scores on weekly tests to scores on state-mandated tests, ultimately ending in their goal of getting into college. They are very hard-working and determined. Many of my students start the year far below grade level and are working hard to catch up to where they need to be. It's not a lack of motivation, but a lack of resources that is holding back many of my students from growing to their full potential.
My Project
I'm requesting recess materials (balls, jump ropes, cones) for my students because I believe that physical activity is an integral component to their education. When my students sit in their desks all day, they are not performing at their full potential. Students need a break to run around and to just be kids. Since our school doesn't have a playground, we end up having recess in a small grassy area. Without equipment to organize games where students can learn important social skills while letting out energy, my scholars often end up bored and in arguments. The resources I am requesting will allow for a more structured focus during recess where I can teach my scholars these much needed social skills.
Our scholars are working diligently every day to reach their ultimate goal of going to college.
Even with a solid academic base behind them, these scholars will not succeed to their full potential if they do not have the social skills to do so. Please donate to this project to help them not only grow academically, but also socially, and to help remind that they are still allowed to be kids.
