My student population is very diverse. Of the students, about half are English Language Learners and over 70% come from poverty. Most of the students speak a language other than English at home, and many are new to the United States. Our school is an inner-city school with minimal funds.
My students are enthusiastic, energetic, curious, and eager to learn.
They bring many traditions to my classroom that enrich the lives of their classmates. They especially enjoy experiences that involve using their imaginations and creative materials.
My Project
Many teachers at this school will be jumping into the ocean on January 30, 2021 in hopes of inspiring students to push themselves out of their comfort zones and to take risks, just like their teachers will be doing in a very tangible and public way. This event is also a fundraiser to purchase books for each student at the school. The ocean plunge will be used as a starting point to promote discussions in the classroom about personal growth.
Students will receive books that have universal themes promoting growth mindsets, perseverance, overcoming obstacles, and friendship.
The students will bring the books home to add to their private collections.
