Help me give my students Primary Journals that will encourage my young writers to express themselves and Take Home Folders to engage our parents in our success!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students, who are entering kindergarten, have a diverse background. Many of them are typical kindergarteners while others have learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, or are deaf or hard of hearing. Some of my students have attended our preschool which gives them a tremendous head start on the kindergarten curriculum. Our students live in an economically disadvantaged neighborhood and they all receive breakfast and lunch daily.
All of my students have an amazing drive to learn.
Regardless of where they are beginning, they are all capable of learning many new skills in kindergarten. They are eager to learn new information and are excited to show how much they have learned. When provided with a classroom environment that allows them to explore new skills and discover new abilities and interests, they can reach any goal set for them.
In Kindergarten, our students are beginning their journey in education. They need everyone's help to make their success possible. Aside from their teachers, the guiding force in their lives is their parents or guardians. To assure clear communication home, students need Take Home Folders. The Take Home Folders are very sturdy and last all year. They are clearly labeled with a side to keep at home and a side for return to school. This makes communication between school and home more effective.
Kindergarteners use drawings and words to express their ideas and the Primary Journals will allow them space to do both!
Our students will be responding to literature and sharing their ideas in a well organized journal. This journal provides them with a designated space to draw their response to a prompt and, when they are ready, a space to write sentences also. The Duck Washi Tape will allow us, at the beginning of each new book, to add a tab so students can easily find the next page for their response. The glue sticks will allow them to glue the prompt at the top of the page so that they can show parents what we were writing about.
The Ten Frames Magnetic Answer Boards will allow the students to show their knowledge of numbers on ten frames. We have some in the classroom and with these additional answer boards we will be able to work with more students at a time on this skill.
