Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What better way to become a future reader and writer than to have your own kindergarten journal in which you can express your thoughts and feelings. Also, imagine a beautiful book with words you wrote and pictures you drew that you can share with classmates and family members.

My students are kindergarteners from many culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

They love school and are engaged and excited about learning. They deserve a stellar education and quality classroom materials. Their families and our district lack the resources to provide them with many basic writing materials, such as these journals and story prompts.

My Project

My students write daily in our classroom, but it is often on old, dingy lined paper that was found in the back of the school supply closet. I know they would be enthusiastic about writing and drawing in their very own colored, clean, crisp journal. The writing prompts would provide them with ideas and vocabulary to use in their stories and the journals would provide them a place to write their stories and see their progress over time. Having a bound book, from which they share their stories, would also help to support the idea that they are authors and readers even at this young age.

I want my students to know how special and important it is to become good readers and writers.

I also want them to know I value what they have to say. These journals and story prompts would allow me to provide my children with writing materials that demonstrate these things. Please fund this project and know that your money is going to the best, most deserving students in the world!
