Jonny Raspberry Seed Strikes Back, With Another Technology Center.
My students need computers to get the 21st century education they deserve. This is a kit of 5 very affordable desktop computers and a 3D printer that will be used to setup a math/technology center.
We're a title one elementary school in NYC, with more then 77% of our students qualifying for free or reduced fee lunch. Our students face many obstacles but still come to school to learn every day.
My students need modern computers to build the IT and Math skills needed to help them thrive in the modern world.
This is a wonderful group of students. They are kind, smart, loving, and boy do they all love technology. Now we only need your help to bring our class into the 21st century.
My Project
This is the sixth computer center project I have started for one of my classes. They have all been a huge success. Linux is free, as in freedom.
There are literally thousands of high quality educational games, tools, and resources available for absolutely free.
The only catch is you have to have hardware that is powerful enough to run the software.
The Raspberry pi 3 B+ is an affordable computer designed for use in the educational environment. If this project is funded, we will expand the free software that we can use to support learning in the classroom with programs like sonic-pi, Gimp, libre office, Gcompris, TuxMath, and Scratch.
Did I mention that we'll be exploring the wonderful world of 3D printing? The Monoprice Select Mini 3D Printer is a low cost 3D printer that will be used in conjunction with the R-pi's. Students will pro actively engage in inquiry based learning to find problems around the school that can be solved with a 3D printer. Then, explore, research, and design potential solutions. Finally, they will print and test there designs.
On top of the huge library of open-source educational programs, our students will also have access to many high quality online resources. These include prodigy math game, Starfall, ABCya, PBS KIDS, Khon Academy, Brain POP, tumble books, and that’s just to name a few!
Note: There will be four student computer work stations. The fifth raspberry pi computer will be hooked up to our smart board for lessons and group games.
