Jazzing Up Our Writing

My students need a dictionary to help them learn how to spell more common words. A thesaurus will help them learn synonyms and antonyms as well as improve their writing.

My Students

My students come in the classroom every morning excited to learn something new. Each day begins and ends the same way: with a smile, a "Good morning!" and a hug to those who need it. We end with a compliment, a smile and a hug. My students know regardless of what happens in between, we will always begin and end our day with a positive note and hugs.

For some of my students, our classroom is the only stability they have.

Our school is a Title I school with free breakfast and free lunch for every student and is located in a high poverty/low income area. I try my best to provide a stable and loving environment for my students so they have something to look forward to each and every day. They will always leave my classroom feeling loved and appreciated.

My Project

My students will utilize student dictionaries to improve their writing. The dictionary will help them spell words that they want to use but are unsure how to spell. It will help them in the editing process as well to spell check more common words as well.

The dictionaries and thesaurus will help the students choose more powerful words to amp up their writing.

This will help them score better on quarterly writing assessments and prepare them to score well on the writing portion of the FSA next year in 4th grade. My students will be using the dictionaries individually but will use a thesaurus in a small group setting when we study synonyms and antonyms.
