My Students
I work in a Title I school in Rural East Texas teaching Art to grades 7 & 8. I want to provide my students with an art education that will help them grow and succeed. Teaching Art helps students build self-esteem and open up their world. They become risk takers, use critical thinking and their imaginations. Skills learned through Art will help them in all subject areas. My students deserve the chance to expand their capabilities through their knowledge of Art.
My Project
We will explore some of the traditions of Japanese Art. With Origami paper we will practice the Japanese Art of Paper Folding. Then we will create an art installation of Origami butterflies as well as peace cranes. We will also experience the art of Sumi painting cherry blossoms and writing Kanji with Calligraphy Pens.
Students get so excited about exploring the art traditions of other cultures.
I know this will be an experience they will not forget. We will even have a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony.
It will be so amazing to see their Sumi paintings, Calligraphy, and Origami on display.
