Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Many of my students come from low-income households where school supplies, weather appropriate clothing, and basic school needs are in short supply.

My students come from a large underprivileged city and underfunded school system, but that does not stop them from being dedicated, determined, and thirsty to learn.

Coming from an urban district can often be limiting, due to limited experiences or limited resources. We try to provide students with opportunities for them to be successful, gain new knowledge, and have new experiences, as often as possible.

My Project

These jackets will help some of my students by supplying them with warm clothing for their long walk to school. Many of the students are walking miles to attend school due to a lack of bussing and households without vehicles. Students only receive passes to take the city bus if they live 2+ miles away from school, otherwise they have to walk or find a ride. Even those with bus passes may have to take multiple busses, so they end up waiting outside at the bus stop in inclement weather.

My students need warm jackets to keep themselves dry on their walk to school so they don't sit in school for hours with wet articles of clothing, or worse, don't come to school because they don't have weather-appropriate clothing to wear to school.

These jackets will help keep my students keep warm and dry on their journey to school. On too many occasions, students have come to school with wet clothes and school supplies. These jackets would benefit many members of my school community!
