IXL Reading and Math Gurus

Help me give my students the gift of IXL. This is a web-based program designed to help enrich students' skills in reading and math. It can be accessed at home and school.

My Students

What I love about my students is the fact that they are honest, eager to learn, and totally excited about school. What makes them special is that I have an extremely diverse classroom where a large percentage of them come from countries all over the world. Each of them are very accepting of the differences and uniqueness their classmates bring. What makes them extra special is that they learn together, play together, and work together as a community of learners irregardless of their differences.

Approximately 85% of the students in my class qualify for Free/Reduced meals, some are ELL, some have a learning disability, and many are from low-income households.

The families are willing to get involved but is hesitant due to various cultural reasons (language, fear, etc.)

My Project

My students struggle in the area of math and reading. IXL is a research-based technology program designed for students to get extra practice strengthening their math and reading skills. It can be accessed on-line during center time, as an incentive, and/or when students have choice time. It is a fun way to learn at one's own level and advance to other levels as specific skills are mastered on their instructional and grade level.

This program also rewards them periodically with certificates of achievement to help them stay motivated to learn.

This program will make a world of difference in my students' lives as it will also strengthen and develop use of technology skills. It allows them multiple chances to master common core standards that are adopted within our school district in a non-threatening or invasive manner.
