Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My motto is ‘the one who does the work is the only one who learns.’ To learn how to read my 1st graders need books and adult help. I provide the adult help. I’m in need of some donors to provide the books. I've selected ones perfect for beginning readers with stories that will broaden their minds or excite their imaginations.
The magical Disney stories - Belle, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Jasmine - are collected together in one ‘early reader’ book. These stories are a part of American culture. For part of my class, exposure to these classics at school will be their only opportunity to even know they exist.
Colorful animal pals, with big imaginations, are the basis for the ‘Backyardigans’ series. Five of their stories have been put into one book for ‘early readers’. The characters are “five preschool friends who transform their backyard into completely different worlds.” In this book, the kids go on a surfing and wild west adventure, struggle to survive on a deserted island, act as guardians of an ice fort, and as cowboys try to save a train from bandits. I have students who won’t know ‘books can take you to other places’ unless at school we expose them to this kind of age appropriate invigorating literature.
The TIME FOR KIDS SCIENCE SCOOPS series is a must have in the non-fiction genre. STORMS teaches us about what causes thunder, what it looks like in the eye of a hurricane, how it feels to get caught up in a tornado, etc. BEARS teaches us about the different kinds found in the icy north to the hot rain forests, what their homes are like, what they eat, etc. PLANTS take us to mountains and the bottom of the ocean where they grow, shows what germination is about, tells how a Venus flytrap catches its food, etc. These books about ‘real life’ are written for 1st graders (easy to read and understand, with beautiful colored pictures).
I teach at a 95% poverty level title 1 school. Some of my students come from homes where no one reads a book or no one has time to work with them. I’m the one who has been placed into their life to help them learn how to read. I hope you will place yourself into my life, as a donor, and send these wonderful books to my kids. I will surely be thankful to have your help!
