My Students
As a teacher at a school where the students have various physical and medical disabilities, I teach a classroom filled with non-verbal 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who are faced with many challenges. Despite the challenges the face, I am looking to provide my students with a way to interact with the world around them.
My students love the sights and the sounds of the world around them.
They love to listen to music and many of my students love when the adults in the room are animated and lively. They may not have the ability to tell you verbally what they love but the smiles on their faces and the way their eyes light up tell you a lot.
My Project
This school year, I have many of my students that I worked with in the previous year. They are amazing students who happen to be nonverbal. The materials I am looking to get for this project will allow my students to tell not only myself but others what they want or what they need.
By using the BIGmack communicators, my students can greet all of the visitors who come to say hello, introduce themselves or they can ask to stop an activity!
In the classroom, my students will use the communicators to not only say good morning but to answer questions during our morning meeting every day. They will also use the communicators to tell us if they want to continue with an activity or if they want to be done with that activity. These communicators can also be hooked up to the switches that were purchased previously. The communicators will give them a voice (even if it is mine).
