Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I would like to subscribe to Time For Kids Magazine and put real reading into my 6th graders' hands. It isn't easy to compete in a world full of technology. I teach 6th grade in Spanish Harlem. My students come from a background with minimal life experience and low income. As much as I would love for them to read a newspaper to keep up with current events, they simply don't. They have no interest. That is where I, with your help, come in. Time For KIds is an excellent magazine that captures young readers attention with stories they can relate to. I teach every subject to 18 wonderful students and follow the City's Standard Guidelines to help educate each and every one of them. We read many stories during our Balance Literacy period and we read about Ancient Civilizations in Social Studies. I would like to keep their interest by adding another reading material. They can read articles of other children and families similar to them. Or perhaps about young inventors. We can have more open class discussions, which I know many of my students enjoy. I would like to order 21 copies (the few extras are for children that may register at a later time).
