Are you a true believer that kids should be more connected with current events that are happening in the world around them? Then I think you have chosen the appropriate project. Please partner with me to enhance the knowledge of 35 students and challenge their involvement in saving our world.
I am a general education fourth grade teacher at an inner city public school.
My school is centered in a community deemed as low socioeconomic and a high population of English Language Learners (ELLs). My students are energetic, yet extremely challenged in promoting higher order thinking skills as well as connecting to a world outside of their norm.
My students are constantly challenged by not being exposed to things outside of their community. When having meaningful and engaging classroom discussions about world events, my obstacle is getting them to make the necessary connections with the world around them. This is mainly due to limited resources inside and outside of the classroom. My vision is to be able to offer them tangible resources at school that will allow them to be updated on world events as well as give them opportunities to discover ways in which they can help to make a difference in our world. Moreover, the connection of home and school is equally important to me. I desire for children to enjoy learning and share those experiences with the parents. I believe that having 35 copies of TIME for Kids magazines will give them the means to reflect and take action as well as provide "dinner conversation" with their parents.
Your generous donation to this project can ensure that children's lives are being changed by their hands on learning experiences at school.
Your contribution can also offer ways for parents to connect and develop effective communication with their children inside and outside of the classroom. My dream is to educate and change lives so that my students can be life long learners. After all, school is not just a place to educate, but to empower.
