My second grade ICT class is currently made up of 23 awesome children from the East New York section of Brooklyn. My students are a diverse bunch of learners. Many of them have special needs, but each day they show me and my co-teacher that they are capable of learning so much. Adding technology to my classroom would benefit my students because this is the age they are growing up in. They love technology and if that is the hook I can use to get them to read and practice math skills, then I will try to get them the resources necessary to make that happen.
As adults, technology is an important part of our daily lives. The same holds true for the students in my second grade ICT class. They may be little, but with technology, they can do big things. My idea is to add a technology center in my classroom where my little ones can have access to all the wonderful reading and math websites available like Zearn, Splash Math, Epic, Lalilo, and ABC Mouse, just to name a few.
A technology center with 5 laptops would be an awesome addition to the classroom I share with my wonderful co-teacher.
While we are doing small group instruction with some of our students, others can be learning to read or practicing math skills online. Our students embrace technology and this would be a great way to make learning fun and exciting for them.
Unfortunately, our school does not have the money available to provide us with these resources. We are working in a time where teachers are virtually responsible for getting all the supplies our little ones need. We focus on the essentials like pencils, notebooks, chart tablets, copy paper, etc. We are grateful for organizations like Donor's Choose and people like you that help us create the right learning environment for our students who deserve the world and more!
