My Students

My students fill my classroom, literally and figuratively, when they enter the English classroom. They are brimming with anecdotal stories of their last class period or an event the day before. Their worlds expand daily, and as adolescents, they are eager to make sense of it all. Their energy is contagious.

I teach in a highly diverse, working-class school district and daily work with students filled with hope for their futures.

The hope that their hard work matters, that their goals are attainable, and that what we do together is meaningful outside of our classroom.

My Project

My students are entering the winter stretch of the school year, which is always a challenging time to maintain energy around learning. To combat potential lethargy, I'm shifting to a full reading and writing workshop model to provide students with voice and choice in their learning!

To meet the demands of a workshop-run classroom, I want to provide students with access to Post-its for note-taking, colored pencils and markers for notebook work, a pencil sharpener for our sharpener-less classroom, notebooks for thematic writing, and tissues and hand sanitizer to keep everyone healthy.

These supplies will allow our workshop-model classroom to run smoothly and seamlessly.
