Having a large selection of graphic and high-interest YA novels will support my students' growth as readers. Entering freshmen year, my students are generally reading below the 7th grade level and experience frustration and confusion with assigned texts. To compound the issue, our school's library is open only one day a week. With these novels, my students will have daily access to a wide variety of rich and engaging stories. Independent reading in the classroom will build my students' reading capacity and confidence. These novels invite students into the joyful world of reading; a necessary first step as they begin their high school careers.
