This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have been teaching for 11 years and this last school year was really hard for the staff, students, and community because of how we suffered from Hurricane Harvey. They have lost so much and had to start their lives all over. I am glad to say that our community has shown tremendous strength and made it through this difficult time.
As the new school year begins, I am looking forward to continuing to serve the children and families to ensure academic success while building more home-school relationships.
I can't wait to meet the new faces in my class this year. Every year my students are filled with the eagerness to learn, meet new friends and grow as individuals. Every morning I have the opportunity to see their smiles and bright eyes as they say, “Good Morning,” and it gives me joy to be their teacher. I will do my best to help my students and their families get back to some type of normalcy even if it is supplying them with the simplest things. Education is always the key to success and providing my students with effective instruction and fun learning experiences is what I plan to do.
My Project
As an educator, I have seen first hand what hunger can do to a child while at school. A child that misses a meal or doesn't have enough to eat has difficulty focusing and learning during the day. I refuse to ignore a hungry child.
After a hard day of learning and working, I feel like my students deserve snacks every day to refuel their brain and finish up the instructional day.
In some cases, it is probably the last meal of the day for them. If I can help it, I will make sure my students receive the snack variety, including the crackers, chips, cookies and fruit snacks. These snacks will not only give my students that push to succeed and wrap up the day, but I know it will put a smile on their faces knowing that someone cares.
