Our school is a small Title I rural school. My students come from a tight-knit community made up of a variety of economic backgrounds. Many of these students grow up together while attending kindergarten through 8th grade at our school. Even though many of the students may not have an abundance of materials, they have huge hearts and eager minds. They get excited to try new things and explore new ideas in a safe environment.
My students are astonished that so many people want them to succeed.
They know this is true by the number of generous donations they receive to our projects. The joy on their faces is priceless.
My Project
Building life-long readers can include a multitude of strategies. I firmly believe that giving students choices plays a huge role in getting students to love reading.
This project will allow students to purchase books of their own to read and enjoy!
Through this project I will be able to give my students the opportunity to choose books to purchase that will be their very own books. The various interests of my students means that they will enjoy a diverse variety of books. The books will include nonfiction books that relate to science and fiction books that relate to literature. Students will be able to go through Scholastic catalogs to order books of their own. Students will be able to read these books in class, at home, on the bus, and anywhere else they choose!
