My students need monthly book recommendations for displays in our classroom library! Every month is a brand new focus. September's focus is graphic novels (both fiction and nonfiction).
Our students at PCMS are consistently amazing! Most of them come from low-income homes, but they all come in to school everyday and work hard to learn and to better themselves. These kids are so sweet and they deserve to take part in learning that not only teaches them new ideas and skills, but is also something fun and engaging.
They are kinesthetic and naturalistic learners for the most part.
They love moving their bodies, getting hands on, and learning about real-world application. PCMS students have a special place in my heart and I want to be able to provide an experience for them that they deserve.
My Project
Each month I plan to create a small book display in my classroom library that highlights a specific genre or type of literature.
September's focus is the graphic novel.
I would like to have a mix of both fiction and non fiction graphic novels on display in my room. Each book will be talked up and marketed to the students, and they will have the chance to check them out for themselves.
My hope is that this monthly focus will open the kids up to genres and stories that they normally wouldn't go for, and using graphic novels at the beginning of the school year will be a great jumping off point. We have many middle schoolers at PCMS who love reading graphic novels.
