Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an Occupational Therapist in the Providence Public School Department. My students are brilliant elementary school students who need occupational therapy services to support their independence within the classroom. Each one of my students is unique and requires unique interventions to support their education.
My hope is for my students to receive the tools they need to be successful in their classrooms.
They deserve to be independent as well as have the confidence to achieve their educational goals.
The students that this project would help include students in self-contained classrooms, inclusion classrooms, and regular education classrooms. Many of my students have a diagnosis that can include Autism and ADHD while others may not have any diagnosis. My students have goals that are used to support their ability to participate in their classroom setting. These goals can include reaching for an object, being able to write a paragraph based on their ideas, or even being able to sit in their seat and attend to the teacher. All of these skills are addressed through occupational therapy services.
My Project
This project is full of a variety of materials needed to support the educational needs of the students at ACES. This project includes games, organizational tools and even a few extra materials that are needed to support their education.
With these tools amazing opportunities can happen within the OT room and their classroom.
Staying organized and having games to play with during therapy sessions is going to allow my students to further explore their educational environment. Students will use these materials to promote their independence and success in their education. The materials in this project will be used during individual therapy sessions to address fine motor skills, literacy skills, and visual perceptual skills in order to achieve their IEP OT goals.
