My Students

Students in my classroom come from low-income families in Chinatown and Manhattan in NY. My classroom is an ICT class with a mix of English Language Learners and students with disabilities. My students all have different learning needs and academic levels. It becomes difficult planning activities for them to work on individually or to collaborate in small groups. Elementary school years are very important. A strong foundation should be implemented for these students. My students' small accomplishments mean the world to them; it helps them boost their self-confidence and self-esteem.

My Project

This project will help cover the cost of admission to the Brooklyn Robot Foundry. The Brooklyn Robot Foundry's goal is to empower kids with building and hands-on activities that focus on STEM/STEAM concepts.

This field trip will provide an opportunity for students to learn about simple circuits and basic aerodynamic concepts of life and drag, and then design and build a circuit using that knowledge.

The students will first learn through a super fun and educational read aloud to introduce them to these science concepts. After that, the educators will apply the knowledge by teaching the students how to make parachutes. Students will also do a fun experiment with a simple circuit and LED lights; they will create a circuit that will light up with a special wand.

Through this trip, students will be growing their knowledge on science concepts while also building their creative making skills. We hope this trip is an exciting introduction to the creative making we will do in our classroom in our Maker Space. The students will learn to be problem solvers, creative thinkers, and collaborative learners.
