It's Amazing What Velcro Can Do...

Help me give my students materials that they can use during distance learning. I am requesting velcro dots and laminating sheets so that I can create hands-on, reusable work tasks for students to use in their homes.

My Students

What would you do if you couldn't communicate? If a day is ruined when the schedule changes, your favorite toy isn't available, and you have to be flexible? These are just a few issues my students face on a daily basis.

I teach a 3/4/5 Special Day Class (SDC) for students on the Autism Spectrum at a Title I school in California.

The diverse population of students at our school is mirrored in my classroom, as Autism knows no ethnic or socioeconomic boundaries. Some of my students have other diagnoses in addition to Autism, such as speech and language disorders, Intellectual Disability, Attention Deficit Disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

My Project

During distance learning, most students are looking at a screen between 2-4 hours a day and expected to submit assignments online. However, many of my students are still working on matching, sorting, and identification skills. This makes electronic work significantly challenging and in some cases unfeasible.

My students require hands-on work tasks to practice developmentally appropriate skills.

I will order the work tasks (which I already own) from our school district print shop, my classroom staff will laminate, cut, velcro, and bag these activities, then deliver them to student homes.
