My Project

"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation."- Plato. Everyone benefits from a break. Research has long shown that it is more effective to integrate breaks into work rather than work for long stretches. For children, taking breaks for unstructured play is critical in increasing focus and attention.

There are countless skills that students can develop through game playing such as critical thinking skills, creativity, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

When a student enters middle school, they no longer have the opportunity to have recess as instructional time is valued more than unorganized play. Breaks from the academic day enable children to practice and develop social skills, use their imaginations, and engage in physical activity, all of which enhance cognitive performance in the classroom.

I am looking to provide my students with a several days throughout the year where they can play games. From physical team sports like soccer and kick ball to individual such as darts and ping-pong, these experiences will provide our students with much needed social, physical, and mental breaks.
