My students need a safe and comfortable place to learn and grow. I plan to give them this in a flexible seating classroom. Having a pub table and three bar stools will allow a smaller group.
6th Grade students are such an interesting group to teach. What a fun time to watch as they transition from an elementary mindset into taking on responsibility and development to become a Jr. High student. Our students do not come to us with tons of background knowledge, and it is my responsibility to make learning fun and build the knowledge.
Joyce Meyers once said, "Do something wonderful, people might imitate it." My goal in the classroom is to create learners and to show them the wonderful things and ways they can learn.
My students make a significant impact on the world around them, including me. They show me ways to look at things differently and truly embody the diversity this world has.
My Project
Students need structure, but they also need to feel like they have some say so. This project would allow my students the opportunity to have flexible seating choices that make them feel comfortable and at ease.
I believe students learn more when they are comfortable and like the environment, they are in.
Giving different heights of tables, such as the pub table, will allow them the opportunity to sit at tables they might have at home, that give more comfort when they are working. Also, having lower than the normal height table allows students to sit at stools.
Giving seat cushions to sit on instead of the hard floor allows for students to have more hands-on activities while not letting students feel uncomfortable.
