My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds. We serve some students that are very transient and other students have the benefit of extended family in the area. We used to be a small town but they are building in our area as fast as they can and we are adjusting to the growth as fast as we can.
We serve students who are low income and may not have educational support beyond our school.
We take these challenges as an opportunity to be more creative in reaching our students.
My Project
We would like to take 30 students to see the Titanic Museum in Tennessee. These students are part of the school Battle of the Books team and have all read, The Watch That Ends the Night by Allan Wolf along with many other books for their competition.
We want to go beyond the book and experience the history first hand.
Students will have a chance to compare their historical fiction novel to the authentic biographies of the passengers and see some of the real artifacts that were taken aboard lifeboats or gathered by rescue boats.
Students will also have the chance to compare this maritime tragedy with the wartime sinking of the Wilhelm Gustloff during WWII, from their reading of Salt to the Sea.
We are excited to go beyond the books and bring a new dimension to our students' learning!
