Help me give my students access to diversity and multicultural learning opportunities with books, videos, posters, Native American resources and activities to expand their knowledge of the world around them.
Our school works with students PK- 4th grade. I have the pleasure of teaching special education for grades K-2. More specifically, I teach K-2 SED. Not sure what that is? It stands for Social and Emotional disabilities. My students come from many different backgrounds and vary in ability level.
Many of my students have difficulty recognizing their emotions and how to deal with them as they are occurring.
In my classroom we not only focus on academics (reading, math, science, etc..) but we also focus largely on social and emotional learning. My students run on routine. It helps with anxiety and with routine they know the expectations of the day. Though my students may learn in different ways, they are truly a fun group of kiddos, who want to learn.
Its a great, big world we live in...or is it? Understanding the world around us is important, but accepting differences in cultures and abilities is even more important.
We are hoping to get funding for some items that will help even our youngest learners, discover the beautiful and diverse world around them.
We are in need of videos the explore the globe, themed books focusing on many different cultures, posters as visuals for students to recognize different abilities and cultures that will help spark conversations, and with the Native American Resource box we can learn about the Indigenous people of the Americas.
