It's a Balancing Act: Allowing Student Movement for Better Focus
My students need the freedom to move and build their core muscles. These balance stability discs will allow my students the opportunity to focus while meeting their physical need for movement.
I currently teach in a Title I school. I find that it is my job to reach all of my students by equipping and empowering them to be productive citizens. Many of my students don't have the opportunities that others do for many reasons. My class is diversely mixed with African American and Caucasian students.
These amazing students are energetic, full of life, and always working.
I have students who receive academic support from another teacher, speech therapy, and students who receive RTI pull out services. My classroom is full of diversity.
I pride myself in having a classroom environment that is great for learning while being comfortable. Students are free to move around the room to learn as well as sit in cooperative learning groups for support. Because students don't always have access to outside opportunities, I do my best to bring the world to them.
My Project
Children need to move! By giving my students the option of flexible seating, I am empowering them to make positive choices in their education. At this age, students need to move! By using balance discs, I can give my students the option of moving while keeping them in one spot so they don't distract others around them.
Building core muscles helps support your spine and improve your posture, which helps the brain function better, giving students the best possible opportunity to focus on learning.
I love to give my students options for their learning environment. So many times in education they don't have choices, but I can empower my students to choose the best environment for each one of them. Not everyone needs to move, so I teach my students to be aware of their personal needs.
When a student can't focus because the chair is uncomfortable or they just have the urge to move, a balance disc gives them the perfect way to stimulate their brain and body. Help me teach my students by giving them the option of movement!
