Impressionable, loving, and eager are three words that undeniably describe my sixth-grade students. Each day, they want to know what we are going to learn and how. My students know that within my classroom, they are free to be themselves, take risks, ask questions, and make mistakes.
My students face many obstacles each day, but their desire to learn and grow relegates any problem they may have.
Learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, ADHD, and family difficulties are no match for my students. They want to do the best they can each and every day.
My Project
Technology is everywhere and used correctly, it can transform a classroom into an engaging learning environment for every student. With the diverse learning needs in my classroom, having technology every day will allow me to connect with each student no matter their learning style or need. I have many students who read and write well below grade level. Having technology has given me access to programs that allow my students to grow tremendously despite their learning difficulties. For one particular student, speech to text has been a game changer. He is able to show how much he understands without being limited by his learning disability.
Technology allows my students to access the curriculum despite their learning deficits.
I have also found that there are many applications that allow me to see a student's understanding of what is being taught at that very moment. Being able to see the comprehension of 100% of my students each day, multiple times throughout a class period, allows me to address what a student does not understand right away and help them to be successful.
However, technology is limited at my school. That is why I am asking for 9 Chromebooks to help my students grow academically, despite their difficulties. Having access to Chromebooks will help me transform my classroom into a place where every child learns without limits.
