Because of your generosity, every student in my class received their own copy of The Outsiders to use during our unit, and at the end of the unit they were able to take the book home to keep. For many of my students, this was the first novel they have ever owned. Having a personal copy allowed students to annotate the text, highlight important passages, write notes in the margins, and continue reading outside of class without worrying about returning the book. Your kindness made it possible for every student to fully participate in our reading experience.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is much more than simply turning pages. As we worked through The Outsiders, students practiced identifying themes, analyzing characters and their motivations, making predictions, citing textual evidence, and discussing how the novel connects to history and the world around them. We also focused on empathy by exploring different perspectives and examining how choices, family, and community shape people's lives. Students participated in small-group discussions, partner activities, and class conversations that encouraged them to think critically and share their ideas with confidence.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding moments was seeing students who are usually reluctant readers become invested in the story. Many eagerly discussed what they thought would happen next, compared the characters to people they know, and even asked to continue reading ahead at home. Knowing they could keep the book made many students especially excited, and several shared that they planned to reread it or lend it to a family member. Thank you for making this opportunity possible. Your generosity has helped create stronger readers, sparked meaningful conversations, and put books into the hands of students who will treasure them for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1770409356051,"projectUrl":"project/every-student-deserves-a-book-to-call-th/10082647/","projectTitle":"Every Student Deserves a Book to Call Their Own","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Deane","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10428487_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1770224511998","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10428487"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74078","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":664,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":70,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":61,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":10,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":65.1,"schoolId":74078,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Locust Grove Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Locust Grove Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/orange-county-school-district/locust-grove-middle-school/74078"}
