Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Technology creates an infinite number of opportunities." The world that we live in today revolves around technology. Children and adults alike use technology daily. I hope to teach my students how technology, such as an iPad, can be used for education.
My students face so many challenges, but I hope to help them realize that education is the vehicle to drive them towards a more promising future.
Our school is 100% poverty-stricken, with only one other in the state of South Carolina. My students do not see this as an excuse to settle but instead as a means of motivation. As a teacher it is my job to reassure my students that education is the key that unlocks the doors of opportunity and future success.
My Project
I am requesting to have an iPad air. My students are so actively engaged when they have access to technology, but not all of my students get the opportunity to use it daily. Having an iPad, in addition to our outdated laptops, students would be able to enjoy learning and become more acquainted with modern technology. When this project is fully funded students will be able to listen to books on the tablet as well as take Accelerated Reader comprehension tests on books that they read. A new iPad will provide my students opportunities to explore The Great Math Race to improve fluency of basic math facts. Students will also use the iPad during our daily math stations. There is something about an iPad that makes completing work more fun! An iPad saves paper in the classroom and provides immediate feedback to students.
My students love being exposed to all of the technological advances and I've seen how kids whom I have a hard time getting involved with testing and books, are more likely to test and read when they are using the tablets.
