Be a part of the village that helps to raise our young African American and Latino boys in King's County, Brooklyn.
I work at a charter school for kindergarten through second grade in East New York, Brooklyn.
We are currently serving a demographic of African American and Latino boys from a very, very poverty-stricken area. As a result of fund raising from the local community and approval from the DOE and NYS Charter Board, we were able to open for the first time last year!
My students were fortunate enough to have a music education teacher hired this year for the first time!! Traveling from New Jersey, over an hour and half, to be with our boys twice a week, Mr. B. is very limited in resources. I am requesting 3 sets of band instruments to be used with the Kindergarten, First and Second grade classes on his behalf. When interviewed at our school, Mr. B. showed a video of a band he created at his last employment using student-made instruments. With this initiative, I want to be able to do him one better and supply our boys with band instruments to use in music class. I can already see the excitement such instruments would bring the boys as they learn music education for the first time. They are interested in music and would benefit from having adequate resources.
Thank you very much for your consideration in our cause.
