"It takes a village to raise a child." ~ An African Proverb.
My students and I are requesting much needed donations so we may create a classroom library where children can become anything they dream, travel to places far and wide, and be able to develop and use their imagination.
I have been teaching for 10 years and for this school year (2014-2015), I have been asked to teach kindergarten.
My school has 47% students on free or reduced lunches and we don't have extra funds for textbooks. If my class is not able to receive donations, they will be walking into a classroom without books, without a place to escape, and with less time to develop their imagination.
My Project
Kindergarten is a paramount year for the students because it's their foundation to all other learning. The classroom library is a hub for learning. It transpires all subject areas and allows students to escape from their lives just for a moment.
I'm requesting a wide range of reading books to fill my classroom library. These books will help enhance my students' comprehension skills and reading strategies. These books will help my students grow as readers by writing and responding to literature.
I'm also requesting a sitting carpet along with pillows. Students need a relaxing and quiet place to allow them to escape into a story.
Reading is the key to success!
We are asking you, our village, to donate to our classroom library.
You can donate as little as $1 or as much as the full project. Please pass this along to your social media friends, co-workers, family, friends, employers, companies, or anyone else in your village.
My students start school on August 18, 2014. I would love for them to walk into their classroom and see a magnificent library.
Thank you,
